The old saying holds true: "Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it." Looking back even to the distant past we see how, fundamentally, people have changed so very little. This is of great benefit to us, since it means that we have 10,000 years of precedents and experimentation to draw upon and determine what could work, and what probably will not. From this can be drawn The Three Lessons of History, general principles by which we can use History to understand our present and plot the course of our future.'
